THE DICTATOR, THE LOVE GODDESS, AND THE MANNEQUINS

How did this gentle bespectacled military dictator bring about an outrageous trend in sexy fashion mannequins?

With the help of a native jungle love goddess, naturally.

Once upon a time, in a small equatorial South American oil state, there lived a beloved evil military dictator named Marcos Evangelista Pérez Jiménez.

He wasn't loved by ALL of his citizens, nor was he born into the role. Naturally, dictatorships are seized, not inherited.
Perez Jimenez, or P.J., brought prosperity to his people, but at the terrible price of wickedly suppressing innocent commies, for which President Eisenhower gave him a medal.
"During his government, Pérez Jiménez undertook many infrastructure projects, including construction of roads, bridges, government buildings, and large public housing complexes. The economy developed rapidly during his term."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcos_P%C3%A9rez_Jim%C3%A9nez
"The price for this development was high, however. PĂ©rez was not tolerant of criticism, and his government ruthlessly pursued and suppressed the opposition. Opponents of his regime were painted as communists and often treated brutally and tortured."
As these quotations indicate, P.J. was artistically inclined. In addition to painting communists, he was also an important patron of the arts.
Here is one of his rather unique houses.
During his reign, P.J. commissioned a statue of the indigeneous/Catholic goddess Maria Lionza, riding a tapir and brandishing a pelvis, and had it placed on a university campus for the 1951 Bolivarian Games.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar%C3%ADa_Lionza_(statue)
The statue Dictator P. J. commissioned stood in stark contrast to the other works of art on display at the campus, which were "part of the modernist Synthesis of the Arts movement."

Left: modernist art
Right: art commissioned by an evil dictator

The price of autocracy is high!
I came across this statue while writing the thread linked below (which compares statues of the goddess of love from civilizations distant in both time and place), but didn't have time to include it. https://twitter.com/surrealSanilac/status/1307043884011327490
Now our story starts to get interesting.

P.J. had intended to make Maria Lionza a symbol of his country. But the plan worked a little TOO well. The goddess Maria Lionza began to attract worshipers.
"As P.J. did not want the symbol of MarĂa Lionza to become an icon of a religious cult, he ordered the statue to be moved to what was believed to be an inaccessible and dangerous location, between lanes in the center divide of the busy highway."
Then things started to go badly for P.J. In 1958 he was deposed in a coup, and fled to the United States, where he lived in exile for several years.

While in the USA, P.J. dated Castro's ex-girlfriend, CIA operative Marita Lorenz, and purportedly fathered a child.
But the legacy of Maria Lionza didn't stop with the deposition of P.J. and the relocation of his statue. The popularity of the goddess and the fame of the statue grew.

Unable to commission statues of their own, her worshipers turned to a more modern replacement: mannequins.
"...other depictions of MarĂa Lionza, those used in public rituals and often made from mannequins, are typically fully clothed and are given lots of make-up and careful hair styling... designed to emphasize MarĂa Lionza's sexuality...."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar%C3%ADa_Lionza_(statue)#Appearance
You may have noticed that the statue of Maria Lionza is a little more bold than other famous statues of love goddesses, and more recognizably female than the modernist art that preceded P.J.'s commission.
It can hardly be a coincidence that the mannequins produced in this country after the erection of this Maria Lionza statue share a similar boldness.
Could it be that P.J.'s statue started an inevitable trend toward voluptuous mannequins that led, in the course of decades... to these?
These mannequins became famous after a front-page New York Times article a few years ago, which was published with an accompanying video.
The New York Times decided they could strike back at these unfeminist mannequins, while also getting lots of clicks, if they wrote a critical article about them that featured prominent pictures.
After all, the only thing better than being a puritan propaganda "newspaper of record" is...

being a puritan propaganda tabloid!
Decades after P.J. fell from power, his statue still stood.

But the communists he had so wickedly suppressed... finally won glorious victory!

There was a new dictator in town, named Hugo Chavez.
There has been a great deal of debate about whether Chavez is or is not a follower of Maria Lionza.
But he's on record criticizing another trend that accompanies these mannequins.

"President Chavez called the country’s plastic surgery fixation “monstrous,” and railed against the practice of giving implants to girls on their 15th birthdays." https://indianexpress.com/article/world/americas/venezuelas-newest-shortage-breast-implants/
Shopkeepers were an even bigger problem. The mannequins improved sales! It was impossible to give them up!

But Chavez's successor Maduro, with the miraculous competence that characterizes communist leaders around the world, knew a sure way to fix the problem.

Crash the economy!

Let's see those girls try to afford implants with a 2000% inflation rate!!!

Left: GDP
Right: inflation
Now free of his malign influence, commies like Chavez and Maduro were able to bring true hope and change to their country.

By crushing the economy, Chavez and Maduro could not only stop the alarming plastic surgery trend, but also crush the power of the greedy shopkeepers who put ever more voluptuous mannequins on display, to profit from the attention economy. https://twitter.com/surrealSanilac/status/1301972967769780224
While this glorious plan has had limited success on the first point...

https://indianexpress.com/article/world/americas/venezuelas-newest-shortage-breast-implants/
...worship of Maria Lionza continues unabated, and judging by these photos, her followers aren't ready to abandon surgery just so they can afford healthy food.

https://marialionzalamadre.blogspot.com/2017/05/a-look-inside-maria-lionza-gathering-in.html
And there was a second problem with the plan. Crashing the economy may have reduced the shopkeepers' power, but many citizens, unhappy with the reduced buying power and poor access to implants caused by hyperinflation, emigrated--bringing the goddess and the mannequins with them.
A retired American couple encountered them in Panama City:

“They're so erotic in some stores that we noticed an older gentleman staring longingly into the face of one mannequin, like it was an ice cream cone just waiting to be devoured.”

https://alongthegringotrail.blogspot.com/2011/11/only-in-panama.html
It was only a matter of time before they made it to Miami.

After all, Florida's shopkeepers were hardly going to let themselves be outdone by South Americans!
Some even claim that Maria Lionza provided inspiration for the most popular sex doll designs in America and the UK. https://twitter.com/surrealSanilac/status/1308703076174315520
Sightings of these mannequins are still rare in the US and Europe.

Will the goddess make inroads north (perhaps her tapir is limited by the frost line)?

Or... will rioting commies in the USA achieve the same beautiful results they did in South America?

Only time will tell.
In my Luxury Occidental Sex Slave Shoppe we tend to sell more modest models. Perhaps this is due to wealthy Orientals' tasteful sense of restraint--or perhaps the goddess Maria Lionza fears our desert dryness would have an unfortunate effect on her skin.đź‘ł
https://twitter.com/surrealSanilac/status/1286300038994505729
Some claim that the rise to fame of popular beauty exemplar and modern odalisque Demi Rose was preceded by a pilgrimage to the statue of Maria Lionza, but I can't confirm that these pictures were really taken at the time of her trip to South America.
Allegations that a secret Maria Lioza cult in Hollywood, imported from Latin America, "sacrifices the hearts of young girls in a devilish bargain for eternal youth" are also unproven. Friends of Jeff and Ghislaine point out that young girls can be sacrificed for many purposes.
Who knows where the story might lead us if I continued writing this thread?

For my safety and yours, I'd best stop here.

I'll see you in the Orient!🧭

The New York Times was right: these mannequins are intimidating women into undergoing dangerous cosmetic surgery.

Double arm amputation, while considered attractive in some cultures, can severely limit your ability to do jobs requiring heavy lifting.
