Tonight we're bringing you live updates as we deal with breaches of #coronavirus laws around the West Midlands.

We've got officers responding to your calls about house parties & other big gatherings, and checking that pubs & restaurants shut at 10pm.

Stay tuned...
Here's the lowdown from last night's operation:

🔴 We moved on around 450 people who were part of big gatherings.
🔴 We moved on 250 people from an event at a hotel in #Birmingham.
🔴 We got called to a snooker hall where people were being let in through the back after 10pm.
🔴 We told 38 people to leave a massage parlour
🔴 We were called to 50 people having a party at student accommodation.
🔴 We've passed on details to council licensing teams who have the power to take further action.
We're still tackling breaches by using engagement, explanation, and encouragement.

But we won't hesitate to use our powers to fine people who refuse to listen.

Sometimes we get asked why we're not focusing on other types of crime. We are. Tonight, we have 67 people in our custody. Their suspected crimes include:

🔴 A child sex offence
🔴 Assault
🔴 Harassment
🔴 Theft
🔴 Money laundering
🔴 Threats to kill
🔴 Robbery
We’re just leaving the station to go to a call, but have stopped to speak to a woman who’s outside and is telling us she’s suffering #domesticabuse. This takes priority and we’re helping her now. Helping people in need is what we do.
🎶 We’re now heading into #Birmingham city centre to reports of a ‘secret rave’ at a bar.

👀 We’ve checked it out and there’s no problem.

😷 One customer even stopped us to show us how he was putting on a mask.

👍 Quick chat with the boss and we’re on our way.
We’ve stopped off near Dale End to help colleagues deal with a breach of the peace.

Now driving around Pigeon Park to check in on the bars, pubs and restaurants.

All good in the city centre. Lots of people wearing masks, and door staff giving us a wave.
While we’ve got officers working to help stop the spread of #coronavirus, we’re not letting up in our fight against the crimes that do the most damage to communities. ⬇️ https://twitter.com/be_ntf/status/1309925290202869761
We’ve just been chatting to staff at student accommodation, where 50 people were reportedly having a party last night.

No problems so far.

In Manchester, an outbreak of 127 cases among students has meant many more have to self-isolate ⬇️ https://twitter.com/mancitycouncil/status/1309560900328845313

🎤 We’ve just been to a social club in south Birmingham where there were reports of a big gathering.

✅ We had a walkthrough and found no issues.

🍻 Last orders were called at 9pm, as ahead of 10pm’s closure.

👍 We explained why we were there, and the manager thanked us.
🕙 It’s past 10pm, so we’re checking that pubs, restaurants and takeaways have closed (deliveries are still OK).

In Sparkbrook, a big group of people have been found at a meal following a wedding earlier.

They’ve been moved on, and the venue’s licence will be looked at.
🎺Meanwhile, in Moseley village, there’s been a bit of a gathering on the green featuring an impromptu performance from a band featuring someone on the trumpet.

We’ve had a word and people are making their way home now.

All very friendly.
Update: We've just heard that this lady has revealed she's been the victim of some really serious crimes.

She's now safe and being helped by our Public Protection Unit. https://twitter.com/WMPolice/status/1309929910195159043?s=20
📱Since 10pm, we've had around 18 calls to breaches of #coronavirus laws - mainly reports of house parties.

In #Birmingham, #Sandwell, #Solihull and #Wolverhampton, people who don't live together can't meet in homes/gardens, unless they’re in a support/childcare bubble.
Just a reminder that we're always out there tackling crime and working to make communities better places. https://twitter.com/ShirleyWMP/status/1309958464224014337
We’ve called at student accommodation in #Birmingham again just to check all in order and staff tell us that our earlier advice has had a positive impact - good to know 😁
We’ve arrested a teenager for assaulting a police officer after we were called to a house party with 20-30 people in #Oscott

It’s simple - stay at home, stay safe.
We’re just leaving a pub in Birmingham which was hosting a wedding party with DJ & around 60 guests.

Drinks were still being served when we walked in - two hours after the pub should have shut.

Guests left without issue, and licensing officers will decide on next steps.
We’ve directed around 550 people to leave premises at over 20 locations across the force tonight where #Covid regulations were being breached.

Eight premises will receive a visit from licensing officials for a licence review.

No fines have been issued but we will if we have to.
