Very proud of @YHAOfficial part in this & supporting other vulnerable groups. Work we are looking to continue in small number of our hostels. 1/ https://twitter.com/eveningstandard/status/1309245212628324358
The amazing donors who’ve matched @YHAOfficial contributions and allowed us to offer free stays to key workers and families who need a break. 3/ https://getinvolved.yha.org.uk/breaks-for-key-workers/
. @YHAOfficial members ❤️Those that could afford to keeping membership even when we were closed. The warm words of support. The rushing back as soon as we opened. The understanding that we couldn’t open all of our hostels or all of our facilities.

Volunteers. Particularly @YHAOfficial Board of trustees. Carrying legal responsibility during this time of crisis alongside their day jobs and personal commitments.

And overwhelmed that over 100 people applied to join the Board in this round of recruitment. 5/
But most of all @YHAOfficial staff.

The staff desperate to work but who took furlough & pay cut because it supported the charity.

The staff we had to let go but whose thoughts were still for the charity and their passion to come back next season. 6/
The @YHAOfficial staff who’ve juggled work with child care, homeworking, returning to the workplace and their own human fears in this strange new world.

Responding to each other and to our users with such kindness, professionalism and good humour. 7/
The staff working such long hours and making our hostels so welcoming; contact centre team staffing phones & emails from their homes dealing with 1000s of contacts; finance, business systems, administrators responding to daily changes in guidance & ensuring compliance.8/
Interlude:
Our guests have been amazing. Even when government guidance means we have to change at last minute & glitches have crept into system. 🙏

To those few who have shouted at staff online or virtually-please don’t come back. Do cancel your membership. It’s not who we are.
Education teams adapting our offer for schools & increasing our youth employability; fundraising filling gaps on top of their existing targets; digital and marcomms communicating with over million people during a time when there a 1000 messages and much at stake. 9/
Truly @YHAOfficial is a family. We will be here for the next 90 years to connect people to nature, the outdoors, to heritage and culture.
And most of all to each other.
We’ve much to do. To adapt. To develop. But we will travel together. 10/
