For anyone talking about how you shouldn’t be shaming the new Supreme Court nominee for her role as a professional working woman and a mother, I ask this - do you think this woman, with her history, is going to make life easier for working mothers? (1)
Do you think she is going to make fair and unbiased rulings on cases regarding women’s equal pay, discrimination against women in the workplace when they lose their jobs for getting pregnant, and healthcare that covers women’s reproductive care? (2)
She is a wealthy, white woman, born of privilege. She is a part of a religious group that doesn’t see women as equal to men. She has seven children, but I bet you she wouldn’t support legislation that paid for childcare to help get women back into the workforce (3)
This election is a big deal, and women are fighting hard for equal representation inthe workplace while trying to be primary caregivers with no support during a global pandemic where the United States government has dropped the ball. (4)
Professional women are having to leave the workforce due to childcare needs that can no longer be fulfilled, and you expect me to believe that this woman doesn’t have a silent army of caregivers? OF COURSE SHE DOES. And she should! (5)
You don’t get a career like hers and her husband’s without childcare and support. My point is that she will DENY other women, especially women of color, who are already underpaid and more overworked, access to the healthcare and choices she has/had. (6)
People are bringing her role as a mother into this be she 1) misogyny- a mother will always be questioned more than a father regarding work and family/life balance (and that is some bullshit), and 2) BECAUSE SHE WILL TAKE RIGHTS AWAY FROM PEOPLE (7)
EVEN THOUGH SHE HAS BENEFITTED FROM THESE EXACT RIGHTS! She had a choice to have those children. She has options! That’s great! But having options and then ruling to take those options away from other people in the name of the constitution is SOME BULLSHIT. (8)
The ACA, with all its flaws, has still provided options for people who didn’t have them before. One of these options is birth control. Does anyone think the GOP’s obsession with gutting the ACA has nothing to do with birth control? OF COURSE IT DOES. (9)
When you take contraception, however imperfect, away from women, you deny them options. Options to family plan the way that works best for them, options to regulate their medical issues that need hormonal birth control, options to live THE WAY MEN DO. (10)
Let me repeat that- THE OPTION TO LIVE THE CAREFREE, DON’T HAVE PHYSICAL, IN MY UTERUS, REMINDER THAT I HAD SEX AND NOW HAVE TO DEAL WITH A FETUS WAY THAT MEN GET TO LIVE. Men don’t have this issue unless they want it. The system is DESIGNED TO SCREW WOMEN OVER. (11)
As this system changes, and women like RBG have clawed for more legislative rights for women, white men are freaking the fuck out, especially wealthy white men like conservative, elected officials. Female subjugation is sort of their thing. (12)
Subjugation of brown people is also their thing. We see it every day. And now, they’re going to try and stack the court with YET ANOTHER judge who gets off on taking rights away from marginalized people. And because she’s a mother, people will defend her and act (13)
As though her role as a mother and her religious faith are the reasons the left doesn’t want her on the court. NOPE NOPE NOPE! It’s for everything I’ve mentioned above. You can be a mom and still be a horrible person. You can claim to follow the tenants of Christ (14)
And still be AN ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE HUMAN. So you can drop this “they shouldn’t bring her kids into this” BS, because given the choice, I’m sure she’ll bring your kids into it. She’ll take rights from your daughters; she’ll turn a blind eye to the murder of your brown kids. (15)
She is no different from her GOP colleagues, she’s just got the extra cloak of motherhood martyrdom to wrap herself in. Don’t be distracted. She’s made her choices, and she wants to make sure you don’t get to make yours. (16)
Also, since I got to read replies from the human dumpster fire that is anti able to on Twitter, let me also say that dismantling the ACA is what opens the flood gates to start screwing women out of reproductive care. Employers will not cover birth control. (17)
Any issues you’ve ever had with your reproductive organs will be a pre existing condition and won’t be covered. Birth control is not that easy to get now; lots of employers don’t cover it, pharmacies don’t exactly keep it next to the bubble gum. (18)
Places that make it easier to get, like planned parenthood, will be on the chopping block for funding, even if the majority of services they provide are not abortion, because people are misinformed and republicans are really into defunding places that help women. (19)
When all these things happen, women will be less likely to receive preventative care, and issues that could be dealt with early, like cervical cancer, uterine cancer and endometriosis, to name a few, will not be and more women will suffer or die. (20)
This is the slippery slope we are on if Catholic Dolores Umbridge gets put on the Supreme Court. (21)
