#Plasmadonation..one of the most used term nowadays, ofcorse this arouses lots of queries in a donor's mind..

Let's see if this helps to clear the air to some extent đź‘Ťsummerized in 10 points.

#covidcapsules #plasmatherapy
#covidupdates
Among the 3 categories of COVID patients (severe, moderate ,mild), plasma therapy is suggested for patients who have been moderately infected.Patients with mild condition often recover easily themselves, whereas the chances of recovery in a severely-infected patient are slim.
When one contracts an infection, especially a viral infection, their recovery depends on the production of antibodies to fight the antigen ( which in the current case, is COVID-19). These antibodies are present in the recovered person’s blood for a few weeks aftr recovery.
On the other hand, those who are not recovering, could be failing to fight it off as they may not have developed the warrior antibodies.
If a patient failing to recover ,is administered antibodies from a convalescing patient, he would be able to fight the virus.
Patients those have fully recovered from covid for atleast "2weeks" are encouraged to consider donating plasma , must have had a prior diagnosis documented by a lab test and meet the donor qualifications👇
1.Individuals must have complete resolution of symtoms for atleast 14 days prior to donation. A negative lab test is NOT necessary to qualify for donation.
2.The donor should not exhibit signs of the infection, should be out of the hospital and leading a normal life.

3. Plasma donation is voluntary.
Donors should be at least 18 - 60yrs of age.

4. Nulliparous Women and whose body weight is more than 55 kg(remotely) are eligible.
5.The haemoglobin level of the donor should be above 12.5 g/dL.

6.The donor must have been admitted at the hospital for COVID treatment. #Asymptomatic patients are INELIGIBLE to donateđź™…
7. The procedure is safe n sound,so that a donor can donate upto 3-4 times based on his physical condition..carries the same risk as BTđź‘Ť
For COVID..up to #500ml plasma is collected from a donor. New plasma gets generated from the donor’s bone marrow within 24-72 hrs🙂
8.Contraindications to therapy are allergy to plasmaprotein or sodium citrate, selective IgA deficiency. As in other trial settings, concurrent viral or bacterial infections, thrombosis, poor compliance, short life expectancy (e.g. multiple organ failure) pregnant or BF women❌
9.Individuals with #history_of_contact with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases, including those under #quarantine, should be deferred from donating blood for 28 days from the last time they came in close contact with a COVID-risk person.
10.However treatment of COVID-19 patients using the convalescent plasma is under clinical trial and currently no evidence of the efficacy of the convalescent plasma as a treatment modality for SARS-COV-2 is established as per ICMR...let's wait n watch with fingers crossed🤞
