THREAD: 35 years ago this week Hurricane Gloria was making its way up the east coast. This hurricane is responsible for lighting the tropical spark in many chasers including @WeatherGoinWILD and @iCyclone
Gloria reached Category 4 near the Bahamas and made landfall in NC, NY and a third in CT.
Gloria was the last hurricane to make landfall in New York State. At the time of landfall Gloria had sustained winds of around 85mph. She was also moving forward at 35-mph. This combination produced peak winds of at least 111-mph across eastern Long Island.
Despite being a weakening hurricane, it still packed a punch.
