Well damn, friends, it's the 30th anniversary of COP ROCK, the terrible police procedural musical about the LAPD.

Let's look at some of the "best" musical performances!
First off, probably the most well-known: "Let's Be Careful Out There" is a reference to co-creator Steven Bochco's far more famous HILL STREET BLUES (even featuring a cameo from Daniel J. Travanti, the pipe-smoking Captain from that series)!
The opening credits features a Randy Newman banger (sure, it's no "You've Got a Friend In Me"). One of those "studio recording" style videos, with the show's actors just hanging out and chatting.

While the song is being recorded ten feet away.
How about a gospel-style number set in a courtroom, where the last great ponytailed villain of the 80s is (SPOILER ALERT) found guilty of "all his crimes"?
Some of the most inexplicable lyrics ("I bet there ain't no roses in your family tree") meet the most homoerotic ("I know what's what when your butt's on the line, and when you need a man to cover your back...") meet in "Blue is Blue and Black is Black".
In one of the most offensive and loony scenes in the entire series, a cop (Diane Delano from NORTHERN EXPOSURE!) sings about how police violence makes her horny and tries to get it on with her unwilling partner after everyone around them disappears.
As the cops evict a homeless encampment filled with good-looking actors and extras outfitted in Stereotypical Bum costumes and surprisingly good Bad Teeth appliances, the indigent sing of their plight.
The briefing room becomes a network television strip club when a prostitution sting is presided over by Paul McCrane (the evil Dr Romano from ER)!
Did you know that Sheryl Crow was in COP ROCK?!? It wasn't enough to save the series, sadly, because this was the very last episode -- the show was canceled after 11 broadcasts.
I'm really sorry if you missed the last time America was truly united, but I swear, we all hated this show. I think this was my first experience hate-watching anything.

If you're somehow still interested, here is the whole first episode of the series:
