1/ During the final session of the 2020 Religion News Association Annual Conference, I made this statement. What follows is my statement on the #abortion debate. #rna2020virtual

2/ Whoever builds the house sets parameters for possiblities within. Burned by gains of #CivilRights, seething from Supreme Court anti-segregation ruling (Bob Jones vs USA), southern White men constructed #abortion debate framework in 1983 as staging ground for cultural warfare.

3/ Pro-life vs Pro-choice is an inhuman frame, meant to draw battle lines, meant to set the stage for winners/losers. It is so last-century. And it is inaccurate. Those who built the pro-life frame have proven beyond a shadow of doubt, what they really cared about is white life.

4/ They profited off the breeding and sale of our Black babies.

5/ They NEVER fought against the forced hysterectomies of Black and Brown and Asian and Native American women.

6/ They dump toxins in our water supply and give our babies and mothers cancer.

8/ They kill our children with their police and then do backflips with double-twists to declare the “legality” of their deaths.

9/ We know #poverty is a main driver of abortion. Yet, GOP claims to be pro-life while consistently cutting funding for SNAP, schools with majority POC populations, and is hell-bent on killing Obamacare—which helped to lift tens of millions of people out of poverty.

10/ I’m leaving this 20th century house of war. I want nothing to do with it. In that house, Black and Brown bodies burn as the collateral damage of white men’s culture war.
