deku and uraraka date all through high school. everyone thinks theyre the perfect couple. a match made in heaven. relationship goals.

they last until mina makes a joke about how deku would leave uraraka for bakugo, and uraraka laughs a little too hard.

the group goes quiet, bakugo twice as serious as he stares at his shoes.

uraraka shuffles, and her voices pipes up, "i mean, if he told me he was in love with him, i wouldnt even be surprised at this point."

she meant to play neutral. she meant to laugh cause sometimes it hurts

to stay up all night in bed when the man youre in love with refuses to spend nights with you because "aizawa will find out!", but has no problem spending them with his best friend in a room no one's seen in 3 years, coddling a relationship no one's been able to define yet.

and yes, theyre in high school. theyre kids. they got the world ahead of them and their family and safety net in the back. she knows she can trip and fall and get back up, because being in love at 17 isnt the end of the world. training to fight villains isnt the end of the world.

shes safe. shes allowed to fuck up. shes allowed to feel sad and angry and heartbroken and elated.

but so is deku.

theyre 17 and in high school, but it sounds a little too adult when deku says, "please dont ever ask me to choose between you and kacchan," because she knows.

and thats why she laughs and adds she wouldnt be surprised if theyre in love. shes seen them grow up— seen them fight like theyre dancing, argue like theyre singing, move like theyre each others mirrors. shes thought about how theyre the perfect half for each other,

quirk-wise, fighting-wise, personality-wise, even physically.

shes stared at the freckles on dekus skin like theyre splotches of paint. shes compared it to gelatin and made deku laugh as she tries to explain her reasoning. shes watched the way bakugo watches him and vice versa.

she knows theyre in love.shes just waiting for one of them to pop her bubble and say it. maybe thats why she says it first. maybe thats why she laughs too loud over a joke she knows deku will be hurt over. maybe thats why she adds the last part. because she knows its unnecessary.

she doesnt expect bakugo to stand up and walk away with his hands in his pockets.

she doesnt expect deku to vibrate in quiet anger besides her and he watches him leave.

she knows what shes done.

"i told you—" he starts.

"i know."

so she lets him go.
