Did you know that the legendary flute player Pt Hariprasad Chaurasiya ji who gave amazing Bolly music in Silsila felt that his music had become sullied after years in Bollywood and went to a pure classical guru for deeksha?
He was told that the Guru doesn't teach much anymore. But only that Guru can lift his music and spirits back.

He went to Guru's modest flat regularly with a request to teach. The Guru was reticent, withdrawn and wanted nothing. Go away she said.
Panditji kept on knocking the door for he knew She is the right Guru.
" What can I teach you? I don't even play the flute. I play surbahar."

"But you know music in its purity, I have lost my path"

Eventually she agreed. But she would teach when she pleased. Pt ji agreed.
For months Pt ji went to seek purity. He felt that commercial music direction had defiled his music.

His Guru ma- Annapurna Devi helped him find his way back.
Annapurna Devi was born Roshanara Khan to the famous musician Alauddin Khan. He was reluctant to teach her music at first, but gave in when he saw her correct her brother Ali Akbar Khan (father of Amjad Ali Khan ). She was given the name Annapurna Devi by maharaja of Maihar
Allauddin Khan had three outstanding students - Ali Akbar Khan (sarod), Pt Ravi Shankar and Annapurna Devi. He askee her to pick up Surbahar instead of Sitar as he thought sitar was flashier while Surbahar needed more nuance and skill. He considered her his best student.
Love blossomed and Pt Ravi Shankar and Annapurna Devi married soon enough.
Some claim, Pt Ravi Shankar felt insecure and overshadowed by his more talented wife. They separated and Annapurna Devi withdrew from public life giving up music. Her Padma Shri was delivered home. Only George Harrison had heard her once during that time.
The doyen of music passed away at 92. Her favourite student, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasiya came to offer her his last respect. He was among the few fortunate students who could learn from her Guru Ma after she had shut out the world.
