Y’all when talking about the GRC reform in the UK please please be careful.

I’m seeing a tonne of misinformation flying around and a lot of young trans kids getting really scared about stuff that isn’t happening at all.

Make sure your facts are correct.
The tl;dr is that this decision doesn’t remove any rights!!

They were going to make receiving a Gender Recognition Certificate (the document that changes your gender marker on your birth certificate) easier but have cancelled the plans to do so.
All this means is that things are going to stay the same, not get worse!

It’s still a big deal because the GRC process is ridiculously hard to get through. You can change your gender on your ID without it but you need the GRC for stuff like getting married.
So it’s bad. I wish it would change so that I could marry my partner without having to wait years and jump through so many hoops.

But that decision isn’t taking away from us anything that we currently have.
I’m seeing a lot of people who think this decision is going to prevent them from transitioning or make it illegal to transition or make medical transition harder to access.

But that is NOT true.
There are separate issues with regards to medical transition in the UK (mainly that the wait times are far too long) but that is nothing to do with the GRC decision.

And it’s not going to become illegal.
Please don’t spread misinformation. You’re genuinely terrifying vulnerable trans kids and making them believe they can’t have a future.

Check your facts.
