What taxes does Jeff Bezo’s pay? A thread:
Judging by his daily income of $321 mil, Jeff Bezos makes around $83.46 billion a year. He’s likely making more now, but that’s the number we’re working with. A lot of people who like to think they’ll be rich would defend him through that — so let’s look at his taxes.
Keep in mind this thread does not include the taxes he would pay as an employer.
Since he lives in Washington, we’re looking at a total 60.7% net pay and 39.3% total tax.
Based on federal income tax, social security and medicare — this all comes to a sum of around $32,841,476,087. That’s around $32.8 billion.
Now, that may seem like so much money, right? Because you and I can’t even comprehend what we’d do with that much — but that doesn’t change the fact that Bezo’s still walks away with $50,618,523,087 a year.
Unsurprisingly, Bezo’s lives in the third lowest taxing state — for the rich, at least. But I suppose it could be worse — he could be living in Bahrain, where he’d only get taxed 1.1% and be left paying just $1 mil in tax, leaving him with his $83.4 billion.
But let’s be honest, regardless of where he lives, Bezo’s is likely one of the hundreds of billionaire tax evaders that swamp the US.
So, a friendly reminder, eat the rich — before they eat you.
