i’m a writer. (this is relevant, stick with me)
the thing you hear the most as a writer is: ‘your writing seems bad to you because it’s YOURS. you’ve planned it and written it and read it over so many times. it’s so familiar to you, you start to hate it’
this applies not only to writing, but to your view on yourself.
you know your face, your hair, your body, your personality inside out. you know everything about yourself because it’s you.
you’ve known yourself for your whole life and you are you everyday. yes you’ve changed through the years, but it’s always been you.
you’re with yourself everyday. you’re with yourself in every conversation, in every picture you take and every mirror you look in. it’s you.
and you started to hate yourself. you started to hate little things about yourself and you wished you could change those things so so badly and you obsessed over those little things.
because you are you and you are your absolute worst critic.
but when a writer shows someone else their writing, the other person absolutely loves it.
they love little things about it you never even realized was something they could love. they think your writing is absolutely perfect.
and you didn’t even realize that what you wrote was good enough for someone to love. you didn’t realize you made something that people actually appreciated.
when someone compliments you, you don’t believe them. because you have convinced yourself that you aren’t good enough to be appreciated
but why not?
you only see yourself in certain ways. you don’t get to see yourself when you’re laughing, when you’re passionate about something, etc. you don’t listen to yourself rant about something you love like people who care about you do
you know yourself to the core. but only from one viewpoint.
let other people show their viewpoints. and believe them. because you’re so used to the one version of yourself you recognize, you don’t even realize someone can see you in some other way.
you are beautiful. you are loved. you are not annoying.
believe them next time they compliment you.
i love you. everyone loves you. please remember that you are worth so much.
