/ I'd advise you don't spend your weekend engaging with the minority of anti-Low Traffic Neighbourhood opponents who aren't open to fair-minded debate. For all the others, we understand LTNs are a big change. We're monitoring them and listening through the consultation process.
/ The Hackney Transport Strategy 2021-25 also commits us to modal filtering and a movement hierarchy that places pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users at the top. https://drive.google.com/file/d/173Yz8wZuSdjnXb15q0dSsIhWzEkRGkBo/view
/ As I've noted elsewhere, long before we introduced Hackney's new Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, our borough had the 6th highest death rate of 418 local authorities from air pollution and the highest pedestrian and pedestrian casualty rate in London. Doing nothing isn't an option.
/ Low Traffic Neighbourhoods help rebalance our roads by allowing full access but also discouraging through-traffic and unnecessary local car journeys, which is only fair in a borough where 70% of households don't own a car.
/ I personally answer all items of casework e-mailed to me, but I will no longer waste my life responding to twitter accounts spouting abuse. By all means, change things through the ballot box, but criminal damage and threats of violence are never justifiable in a democracy.
