Just used an Airbnb competitor and it was so much better in so many ways...
1) The price quoted on the search results page was the actual price I paid, unlike Airbnb which has an extra 50% in hidden cleaning and service fees.
2) The place was booked instantly, no need to wait for the host to accept.
3) There were no paragraphs of "house rules," and no back and forth messages to coordinate a key transfer. Just a smooth, professional check in at any time.
4) The place has privacy. The host didn& #39;t just move their family of four into a trailer in their driveway, within earshot and with a clear view of the living room. And watched us barbecue outside.
5) There& #39;s no expectation to put all bedsheets by the washing machine and "load the dishwasher before leaving" despite paying a $150 cleaning fee. All cleaning is included in the upfront price.
You may be surprised to find out this "Airbnb competitor" is a plain old hotel. Found on @googlemaps and booked on @bookingcom
Airbnb has gotten so much worse in recent years. Most notable for me is how they hide a fistful of fees from the search results page, to slap you in the face when checking out.
It& #39;s exactly the kind of shady business practices you& #39;d associate with a used car dealership, not a "startup" with lots of whitespace in their app, and a clean logo of an upside down heart.
Yet the only things that "exceed expectations" are hidden fees.
