ok so ik some people believe cherry is a stunt song and i definitely agree. i understand where people are coming from when they say that h said it was a really vulnerable and song, however due to the fact h is listed as the sixth writer i really don’t think it’s that-
-personal to him. i like to think that h*mille was pr, and i think for the most part it was, and if it was ever real than i don’t think it lasted longer than 2 months or so. i think if anything did happen between the 2 of them, they were just each other’s rebounds and it wasn’t-
-anything serious. however, i do think that h and c were good friends, which is why she was the perfect candidate for a pr stunt they could do. i’ve heard the theory that cherry is actually dedicated to c’s ex who passed away from cancer, and that theory does make sense-
-considering the fact that c was seen wearing her ex’s clothes after he passed and that he did a photo shoot thing for supreme titled “cherry.” now these could be coincidences, but i’m still pointing them out. writing a song like this as a tribute also seems like something h-
-would do. switching gears, for me one of the main reasons why the cherry narrative we’re given doesn’t make sense is the voicemail. (which isn’t actually a voicemail, but a one sided recording of her talking on the phone with someone.) it just seems so staged.
why would h have a random recording of her talking on the phone saved? how would it happen to be just so perfect that it fits perfectly in his song he wrote for her? why would she agree to let him edit her voice into a song about how much he wants her back and hates her-
new boyfriend? what was her new boyfriends opinion on this? it just doesn’t make sense. and according to h in the zane lowe interview, he and c were still friends and that’s why she let him use her voice in the song. first of all-
-aren’t we supposed to believe this was a messy breakup which left h heartbroken? aren’t we kinda supposed to believe he cheated on her? why would they still be friends after all that and why would c let h use her voice in a song about him being petty and jealous of her new bf-
-and completely dissing him? what i’m trying to say is that it really doesn’t add up, unless this was all for pr, and/or h wrote the song as a tribute to c’s ex as a good friend does.
