Farmer protests in Punjab about new laws that will destroy what's left of their livelihoods

This all started with firstly diverting punjab river waters by laws by Indira Gandhi government in 1966

Then the green revolution created surplus but also led to farming methods 1/

that relied on poisonous pesticides etc to get more production. The farmers still didn't get fair prices for their production back then

That led to mass distrust and the Dharam Yudh Morcha & mass peaceful protests.The problem & mass participation was based on economic redress 2/

It was never about separatism but the Indian government wanted to malign this constitutional right of Punjabis asking for their rights & act like a colonial power when dealing with descent = kill, torture & spread misinformation about them.

This led to a full blown period of 3/

insurgency against the Indian state for 10+ years until 1995

From 1995 - 2020 people tried to get back to 'normality' but the reality was & is all these issues were never addressed. They just continued to fester & Punjabis just managed the best they could 4/

Drugs epidemic
Alcohol epidemic
Cancers (air pollution), water pollution, poisonous farming
No inward industrial investment punjab had to pay the centre back for the costs of militancy for decades
Mass exodus of families first (militancy)
Now mass exodus of students

These new laws = straw that broke the camels back

Punjab has always been discriminated against by the central government of India since 1947

They will always push it to it's limits then blame it
