HAPPENING NOW: United PUP, the broad alliance of PUP organizations, is conducting an Online Consultation for 10 PUP Demands Campaign. Said campaign highlights the call for #LigtasBalikEskwela.
After discussing the current situation and issues in education amidst the pandemic, “ #LigtasBalikEskwela answers to the calls and demands of basic masses,” @AlbieRebalde of UnitedPUP said on #LigtasBalikEskwela campaign.
“Education is a right kahit may pandemic man. It is not for the essence of graduating and providing semi-skilled workers, it is for the essence of learning even through Distance Learning,” said Rebalde.
According to Ariane Bautista of Agham Youth, an online survey was conducted in December 2019 to know the concerns of the students. At least 3,000 students were able to answer the said survey.
The survey revealed that the major concern of the students is the grading system. "Kung tutuusin, mas maganda initially yung grade na [passed] kaso sabi ng iba na may scholarships na required yung numerical data for their scholarship,” said Bautista.
"Either mawawala ang scholarship or mag-i-stop na ipagpatuloy ang klase nila,” Bautista on discussing the concerns of the students.
“Ang main concern is paano nila maipagpapatuloy ‘yung pag-aaral nila and paano mapopondohan ang pag-aaral nila. ‘Yung iba ay pumapasok sa trabaho and karamihan ay pumupunta sa BPO industry. +
+ ‘Yung students ay mas naka-experience ng effect sa mental and physical health. Bale, ‘yung mga mawawalan ng schoalrship ay mapipilitan magtrabaho and wala pang official na sagot kung ano ang mas prefer nila na grading system,” Bautista added.
“Isa lang representation natin sa BOR tapos minsan tayo lang ‘yung nagbibitbit ng calls ng mga Janitorials. Democratic right nila ang marinig sa gitna ng pandemic,” said @AlbieRebalde.
"May hindi balance sa table discussion, we have to give them a voice doon sa table na yun para maconsider yung conditions. Kasi democratic right nila na marinig at magkaroon ng proper working conditions,” Rebalde added.
"Hindi tayo nandito para magpasikat lang na nandito tayo para may maipanalo lang, nandito tayo para ipaglaban yung kailangan ng mga constituents,” Rebalde stated.
"End goal natin ay pagbabalik ng pisikal na klase na nasa demographic ng scientic, demographic at hindi siya colonial at anti democratic. +
National, scientific, demographic at hindi colonical at anti-democratic. Ayaw natin sa new normal, gusto natin ng better normal," @AlbieRebalde on the safe resumption of classes.
“Urge the government for the safe resumption of physical classes or mass testing,” @AlbieRebalde added.
