LIFE AFTER INCARCERATION
-Thread
I remember when my release date was coming up.
Had a plan for what I needed to do, and was making sure I stuck to it.
Did my homework, got some skills, and had a good-paying job lined up.
Success was in my future.

Normally in the joint, you don’t flaunt your release date.
The less people know, the better.
See, a lot of jerk-offs will try and make problems for you, because they figure you won’t do anything, since you don’t wanna fuck off your release date.
Criminals.

Criminals.
Still, you have people who know.
Guys you talk with on a regular basis, and like, insomuch as you can become “friends” with someone in prison.
Some of these dudes I was leaving stuff to, since they had more time to do, and could use it better than I.

Besides, you don’t want to be using stuff from prison once you’re home.
Anyway, I’d talk to these men, and they’d try and convince me of how bleak my future would be.
“Oh, man...your parole officer’s gonna be a fucking asshole, dude.”

“Bro, they can throw you right back in for no reason!”
“Once people find out you have a record? No one will hire you, man.”
These guys were trying to pump me up to fail.
Totally crazy.
This is what they do to each other: convince themselves they can’t make it.

You can only imagine how easy it is to self-fulfill that prophecy.
Thing was, I had a different mindset from these fellas.
I had stopped running with them a while back.
Told the whole crew I was out, and was down to fight for mine, if needed.
There were no takers.

I wasn’t going to let failure dictate the course of my life.
I came home, got a good-paying job based on the skills I’d learned, and made money.
Raised my hand for ALL the overtime.
Made time-and-a-half and double-time money.
Came in early, stayed late.
Stacked.

Because that’s how you have to do it:
Stay working, have a plan, stick to it.
Dedication.
Whatever background you come from, however bad it was, you don’t have to stay there.
Stuck in a loop, part of a system.
Nah.

Stuck in a loop, part of a system.
Nah.
You can bounce out of that.
Find the resources available.
Learn some skills.
Self-invest.
Move on.

@EdLatimore and I started a newsletter for just these type of people:
The ones who’ve had it rough, and want a better way.
Who don’t want to accept their history of failure, and want to move towards a future of success.

Ed’s accomplished a lot of amazing feats in his own right.
Being able to collaborate, and hit so many demographics is an exciting venture.
Being a part of people stepping up their game is what it’s about.

Whatever you’ve got in front of you, handle it.
Don’t side-step, or talk yourself out of something.
If you’ve got to do it, get it handled.
You know what’s needed.
You know where you’re slacking.
If you want to get ahead, this is your recipe.
This is How.

Your family’s shitty history, or your own past mistakes.
