When they initially phone you, they advise you that they& #39;re from the ATO and that you have a tax bill which has been sitting there and needs paying immediately or you will be charged with federal tax offences. Think yeah I& #39;ve heard that before? No this ring goes one better

A follow up phone call is made the next day. This time it involves an actual police direct line and they& #39;re using actual names of officers. This second call is much more demanding and sounds very legal. Please warn your friends/family and especially older people

It& #39;s older people who are likely to be more fearful of this as history shows. Should you receive one of these calls phone crimestoppers immediately on 1800 333 000.

Queensland Police Service will NEVER phone you for this kind of thing. They& #39;ll come knocking on your door without notice.
