Yeah this is why it's never a good idea to be an asshole when it comes to critique. It's not a good look and it helps no one. People might say "you're not owed sugarcoated criticism" or w/e. I'm not saying you should be nice. I'm saying you should be polite. https://twitter.com/dan_mattew/status/1309241336588103685
Cause, believe it or not: the artist doesn't owe you shit.

It's their personal responsibility to know how to handle critique and what to agree on, and what to disagree on and how they can implement the critique to their own work.
SO. Sure! The artist shouldn't be an asshole to people politely critiquing their work. The critic doesn't have to bother with this shit either. There is no right or wrong answer to this, cause the point of all of this is for the artist to achieve on what THEY want in their work.
I'm not an illustrator, my passion is writing and not once and from the past 14-15 years I have been posting my art. I never took the assholes' advices who shat on my work with fondness. I remember from those who gave a shit and actually wanted to help me
SO @dan_mattew this is the same shit I dealt with in the past. They're not helping you out. This isn't "for your own good" this is just toxic.
I recommend watching @PatriciaTaxxon 's video criticism towards "Objective Art Criticism" fantastic video, a much watch to all artists of any craft.
NOW I do want to say, that there is a time and place for rude criticism. In reviews if the creator is a corrupt, abusive or just an asshole. Just don't get personal if the creators aren't assholes.
Watch any of @MattMcMuscles's "what happun" videos, you'll see a lot of behind the scene stuff for shit video games is more depressing that'll make you go from the angry video game nerd to the crying vimeo gay dork.
SO to any aspiring artists, be it illustrators, musicians, writers:

Don't back down.

Don't let the assholes win. Find people that want to help you and keep doing what ya love and with hard work, you will reach your ideals.
