1. Honestly, yeah the aloha oe song is insensitive. I felt so uncomfortable listening to it because this is such a meaningful song and it was reduced to kpop.
2. We actually encourage people of other ethnicities to learn the hula dance because we’re proud of our culture. (1) https://twitter.com/problematicidod/status/1293562241888006144
As long as there’s no malicious intent then we’re good. The hand movements they’re doing symbolizes the ocean.
3. Aloha shirts are not appropriation. It’s not even apart of our culture😂 it’s just something made for tourists when they visit. (2)
Also many people (mainly men) wear Aloha shirts to professional places & events here because the material is thin enough to keep cool due to the hot weather. (3)
4. Saying the words “aloha oe” or just “aloha” is 1000% not improper use of the language😂😂😂 how do people come up with this stuff???
5. Swaying your hips is how you hula. It’s one of the first movements your taught. You can’t just stand there like you’re constipated. (4)
6. That haka was wack as fck lmaoo. Back when I watched the concert, I saw there was zerooo need to do the haka. My Māori friends laughed their asses off when I showed them because the words didn’t make sense and they looked dumb as fk😂 (5)
7. Bangtan were taught the hula by Hawai’ians and surrounded by Hawai’ians (the dancers & musicians). Make it make sense. Again, we encourage people to learn the hula (with no malicious intent). (6)
It would’ve been a whole different story if they were wearing coconut bras, ‘grass’ skirts and mocking the hula. I didn’t see any of that tho.

What’s funny is the people who rt’d this are clearly not Hawai’ian/Polynesian🙄

I am btw...if it wasn’t clear lmao
