i’d just like to clarify something: in my original email to @austdisability i suggested they could write an original blurb describing my story and link back to the original article, and then said their other options were deleting it or i could send them an invoice.
i was friendly and tried to suggest things that would allow them to still share the content without breaking copyright law. the response i got was them saying they republish articles to better their own stats, and i needed better copyright info.
this isn’t about my ego or me being entitled, or about profit. i simply wanted fair pay for my work, and it not to be ripped illegally. i’m a chronically ill writer who does not have a lot of money. i’m not trying to make millions, i just wanted my work to be treated w respect.
i tried to help them share my work fairly and respectfully and legally, but was met with a snarky response. i felt upset by this, so i tweeted to let other disabled people know about this. i did do the respectful and friendly thing first.
i didn’t intend to cause a pile on or scaremonger or any of the other terms they’ve used in recent tweets. i think it’s valid for disabled people to call out persons who claim to help our community, but are comfortable with stealing from them.
i guess i just wanted to do this thread to clarify that i didn’t impulsively jump on twitter and rant - i tried to help them first privately over email, but got a response that was defensive of their actions.
so i wanted others in the community to know, so they can protect themselves. they’ve blocked me now, despite me never tweeting directly at them before. but if they do feel i’ve caused them harm, i am genuinely sorry. i just wanted fair treatment and i tried to help them do that.
