If you& #39;re unfamiliar with the Proud Boys, they are a self-described "Western chauvinist" organization that& #39;s been deemed a hate group by @splcenter and others. The group only admits cis men and has a history of instigating political violence. https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/group/proud-boys">https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-...
Their social media channels are full of discussions of violence in the run-up to tomorrow& #39;s planned rally. https://twitter.com/hungrybowtie/status/1308890166476648448">https://twitter.com/hungrybow...
The choice of Delta Park for the rally is particularly charged, as the park stands on what used to be the city of Vanport. Vanport was Oregon& #39;s second-largest city, and the center of the state& #39;s Black community, until it was destroyed in a flood in 1948.

Several counter-actions are planned in response to Saturday& #39;s far-right gathering at Delta Park.
- 11:30am: rally at the Vanport Historical Marker (please be aware this location is very close to Delta Park)
- 12pm: "Bloom" community event at Peninsula Park

Because of the potential for violence, the governor has declared a state of emergency in Portland for the entire weekend and a large police presence is planned. Notably, police will not be subject to the mayor& #39;s ban on tear gas. https://www.opb.org/article/2020/09/25/oregon-gov-kate-brown-declares-emergency-in-portland-as-proud-boys-rally-approaches/">https://www.opb.org/article/2...
Please be aware of your surroundings and be aware of the heightened risk of hate crimes and other forms of violence this weekend. Assess your own risk level and choose the events you attend accordingly, or stay home if that& #39;s the best option for you.
