If you're unfamiliar with the Proud Boys, they are a self-described "Western chauvinist" organization that's been deemed a hate group by @splcenter and others. The choice of Delta Park for the rally is particularly charged, as the park stands on what used to be the city of Vanport. Vanport was Oregon's second-largest city, and the center of the state's Black community, until it was destroyed in a flood in 1948.

Several counter-actions are planned in response to Saturday's far-right gathering at Delta Park.

Because of the potential for violence, the governor has declared a state of emergency in Portland for the entire weekend and a large police presence is planned.
