Watching Galaxy Quest. I fucking love this film. it’s more homage than spoof. Parisot’s direction brings the earnest portrayal of washed out sci fi stars and ride or die fans together with the witty & punchy dialogue & pops it neatly into a pretty cool action flick.

Fave nods to the greats of sci-fi- • Alan Rickman the Shakespearean actor despairing at how low he has sunk - Patrick Stewart didn’t unpack the entire 6 weeks of the S1 shoot of TNG he was so sure there would be no S2
• Alan Rickman’s character ordering “Engage”

• Sam Rockwell’s hyper awareness of being a red shirt
• Tim Allen channeling some total Captain Kirk Green pussy hunting energy. It’s almost too real
• the alien enemy is played by Ethan (Robin Sachs) from Buffy. Love myself a good melodramatic villain. Especially w/ antennae

Written by people who love sci fi, directed by an excellent craftsmen, produced by people who know who to put in a room together and a cast that committed to some very silly performances that pay massive dividends. Must be quite a things as an artistic team to have trust

You can’t half arse it, but if it doesn’t come together you’re so exposed. I think it wins and loses on Enrico Colantoni. So ludicrous and delightful and heartbreaking “why would you lie?”
