First, you do 2+2. That is 4. The equation becomes 8 / 2 x 4

This phrase comes into play when the equation has only multiplication and division or addition and subtraction left. Since the equation has division and multiplication left to do, you solve it from left to right.
8 / 2 = 4, 4 x 4 is 16.
