Imagine how hungry one particular ancestor of ours must have been to be the first human ever to try a turnip, or an egg or mushroom or anything really.
Some food looks awful.

I think about this so often I'm no longer allowed to bring it up when I'm having dinner with my family.
I mean seriously.
Whoever tried the Kiwi first, you were very brave.
For god's sake, it's got hairs!
Oh poor sweet daft but brave ancestors who went through all the mushrooms...
One bite of this one... oh it's delicious, fry it, cook it, eat it with everything.
Another one... oops, we're all dead.
And that one... oh... oh my... she sky is green, trees alive and I can fly.
Sometimes it's easy to imagine.
Tea for instance, you know, the sign of civilisation and sophistication, the cornerstone of humanity, I can see that being discovered.
"Oh 屁股! I dropped those nice smelling leaves in the hot water and now.... oh.... oh my..."
But eggs?
Come on.
Round white rock things that came out of bird's backsides and are all gooey on the inside?
COME ON.
Mind you, its easy to imagine someone trying one that fell in the fire or in hot water and that somehow turned less gooey.
Hi.

No, nope, no, no, no, I'll rather starve.

But one of our ancestors went like; get me that sharp stone and make us a fire, party time.

And goodness it's delicious.
Let's all be silent for a minute to remember and praise that ancestor who thought eating snails was a swell plan.
Because goodness me it's delicious.
But come on, who thought of this?
He/she had issues.
And yes, we cloggies love eating raw herring, like this, not cooked, boiled, fried.
Some ancestor once, probably Dutch ;) thought to try raw fish, or maybe was just too impatient to wait for it to be cooked.
Or maybe... just maybe... maybe... maybe our ancestors were really into making bets and daring each other ;)

Hey Ooergha.
Yes?
I'll paint your cave if you eat this.
No way, that looks vile.
Coward!
Ok... oh its delicious!
Liar!
No try it!
Oooh you just discovered a new meal!
On a related note, I wish I could have been there when the first human realised that the spot where they threw all the apple pits was now the spot where an apple tree was growing and that this may be related.
I bet you could literally see that coin drop.
After all this I suddenly realise that I actually plucked a mystery berry off a tree this very afternoon and tasted it... it wasn't very nice.
Besides hunger and betting, there's of course also curiosity and stupidity that led to humans discovering what they can and can't eat ;)
