Today, two managers, including our only sports editor, lost their jobs. 

Corporate is labeling them as "job eliminations" instead of "layoffs." No matter the terminology, two people were informed they would be out of a job by this morning.

Our sports editor was still sending out emails today to make sure things were taken care of for the weekend. He worked seven days a week to ensure your sports section was as good as it could possibly be.

We are devastated by corporate’s shortsighted approach to its local newsrooms. We’ll continue to provide fair & accurate journalism for you with all the resources we have left.

We have no sports editor to preside over the start of college football tomorrow. We have no clear plan from corporate for moving forward. But we will continue to fight for Southwest Virginia news, and we will prevail.
