What is mewing?

Mewing is the practice of using good oral posture and it improves nasal breathing, posture, and jaw and face development
Why is it called mewing?

Mewing was pioneered by John Mew and popularized by his son Mike Mew.

John Mew gave his son what he never had, a well-developed face and jaw.
How do I mew?

Mewing is a set of oral habits
-breathing through your nose
-keeping your mouth closed
-lips sealed
-entire tongue on palate
-chin tucked
-proper swallowing
-chewing tough foods or gum
-nasal breathing at night
What changes will I notice?

Adult changes are subtle and take time to notice. Posture and nasal breathing improve quickest. Small facial changes may also occur with consistency.

Kids and teens experience more drastic changes in shorter time periods. (Be a good example)
Why breathe through nose instead of mouth?

-The nose produces nitric oxide, and increases oxygenation of the blood
-Nitric oxide is antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, and antibacterial
-The nose acts as a filter and retains small particles in the air
-Moisture is added to air
Eliminating dairy may help some reduce mucous production and make nasal breathing easier.

Steam can help clear congested sinuses.

Neti pot or similar devices may also help, but generally aren't recommended when sick.

Humidifiers may also be beneficial for those in drier areas.
Holding the tongue on the roof of the mouth is the cornerstone of mewing, MOST IMPORTANTLY the back 1/3 or "root."

This will cause the most discomfort for most since it slightly obstructs the airways for those with less than ideal cranial development.
A visual demo of tongue position.

The back third will cause problems for most since the mind-muscle connection will be weak.

The cues that help me may not work for you. It will take time, experimentation, and willpower to figure out how to do it.
How to breathe through nose at night?

Breathing through your nose at night may be a challenge for many. It can be improved over time and help prevent sleep apnea.
-Side sleeping can help
-Tape over mouth can serve as a reminder
Older cultures preached to close your child's mouth if it were to fall open during sleep.
Mckenzie Chin Tuck Exercise

Helps fight forward head posture
Swallowing technique(Push Swallow)

-Chew food first
-Close teeth together
-Without moving head forward
-Swallow by using tongue
-Without tongue thrusting
-Lift tongue to palate from front to rear
-Pushing food to rear, swallow
Jaw chewing as exercise for jaw

-Chewing tough foods
-Chew large pieces of gum or tough gum
-Recommend mastic gum, 1st choice, the toughest
-Falim gum brand also good, 2nd choice, still good
-Chew with lip seal
Tongue Chewing

-Exercise for tongue
-Strengthens tongue force against palate
-Use regular gum
-Chew gum into ball
-Mew gum against palate
Suction Hold Exercise

-Suction hold is less difficult than hard mewing
-Helps to mew for long periods with less effort
-Have a good lip seal
-Perform a proper swallow
-Repeat until tongue vaccums to palate

Part 1

Part 2
Hard Mewing

-More intense version of regular mewing
-Push tongue hard into palate
-Perform less frequently but with great effort
Tongue exercise will push the maxilla forward

Swallowing properly will help develop hollow cheeks.(Along with weight loss)

Heavy chewing will develop the masseter muscles.
Actionable takeaways

-Keep mouth closed and lips sealed
-Mew until it becomes default
-Nasal breathing(At night too if possible)
-Push swallow
-Chew mastic and falim gum
-Tongue chew regular gum
-Do suction holds
-Hard mew periodically
-Mckenzie tuck
In conclusion I would like to thank the Mew family and ask that you support them. Despite the incredible results and many lives they've changed, they are maligned by big dentistry. If you enjoyed this thread I ask that you support their free content. https://www.youtube.com/user/Orthotropics
PS they ask that this information be free, common knowledge, and available to everyone.
Mealtime Exercise

Feel like this thread was also missing out on this actionable advice

-Erect posture
-Eyes straight forward
-Elbows off table
-Chew food until nearly liquefied
-Pause for few seconds
-Swallow properly
-Recommended at least 2 min per meal
