sometimes trauma isn’t as blatant and sudden or shocking as we make it seem. there’s also the slow acting trauma that you don’t truly realize the effects of until you’ve left the situation. that trauma is still very valid.
there’s trauma that flows with you because in that moment you didn’t have time or the means to reckon with it. because often we think trauma must be marked with one crazy intense moment. but there’s so much trauma that is subtle.
there’s community trauma and global trauma. covid is more traumatic than we make it seem but after this is all over... we will have to face how traumatic this actually was for so many people.
all of us got ripped from something and left with no control. none of us know what to do so we’ve just coped but this is not normal. the same thing goes for being black in america. we’re just coping because we don’t know what else to do but we walk with this trauma.
