Dr. Pamela Harris (Williams), Dr. Aris Winger (Georgia Gwinnett ), and Dr. Michael Young (Iowa State) challenged us on hard actions for advocating for students of color in various spheres of our mathematical lives. https://twitter.com/DrBrandyMath/status/1309570621186084864
Think about the 5% of things you can change right now to impact our space for our students. 5% change over time is actionable.
Expect and embrace discomfort and make the change. Be dialed in to challenge and do the work. Do the work to keep students of color at the center.
Care more about the mission than our discomfort. You can't take credit for all your students' success without taking credit for the ways that you are part of a system that is hurting your students. That's uncomfortable.
5% Actionable Change for Group Work:
* Implement Community Agreements
* Utilize contracts
* Peer and self-evaluation in assessments

By: Melissa Gutierrez Gonzalez, Pamela E. Harris, Alicia Prieto Langarica, and Ying Tang https://www.mathvalues.org/masterblog/extending-grading-grace
5% Actionable Change for Struggling students:
* Be Proactive! Imagine some students may fall and create plan before you need it!
* Create an environment to find out about challenges before it is too late.

Make sure they know that they matter outside of class. Compassion!
5% Actionable Change when students of color aren't succeeding in your class:
