My (just) 18yr old son moved to Murano student village, @UofGlasgow last week. University deemed it was fine to house 10 of them in a flat with a tiny kitchen, in city where pubs etc were open. But could not allow any (socially distanced) contact with teaching staff @BobDorisSNP
There were no adults around other than those registering students when they first arrived - students seemed left entirely to themselves Since moving in, my son has had no personal contact with any teaching or other staff, nor been given name of an academic advisor or tutor.
Predictably, Covid is now rife and he and new mates are in isolation. Yet he has still not had any one reach out to him personally. He and flatmates emailed to ask if they could get help sorting out food. Were told to order from Tesco (3 days wait). @GradySNP @RichardLochhead
I can see the argument for encouraging students to move in - being stuck at home not great for many of them. But I find the lack of any individual contact or support, even remote, really shocking @moisfisch @UofGLiving
The University have had more than 6 months to plan this. Feels like a dereliction of care to me. I think my son will be alright, but others are a lot more vulnerable. @hettieveronica @jessicaelgot
