I wish folx would ask me for work I have already written (like anything from my book that just came out) instead of constant requests for new work BECAUSE my book just came out. Can we work on setting up outlets, curation, features around honoring the present work in the future?
I have ~50 solicitations for new work. My book just came out on Tuesday. My city, in which the book is set is in civil unrest. I'm in the first semester of my PhD program. How do I make this immensely taxing emotional state widely clear to supporters w/o being rude?
Also I think the request for new work in spite of the current work that is newly released is implicitly a way of saying: hey you’re hot right now and we wanna capitalize off of that, not I read the work that you just released and I think it’s great and wanna highlight it.
I know I can just say: I don’t have any work at this time, but I wanna come up with something that says, can we highlight the present work? Without sounding rude.
Basically I just have constant high anxiety around communicating boundaries (fearing that someone will say I'm mean or difficult or I have an attitude) and I should just suck it up and write more poems.
