adhd: a thread
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a behavioural disorder that includes symptoms such inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness.
i wanna start this thread by clearing up the fact this thread is not going to contain everything regarding adhd because there is simply too much to include, instead i am basing this thread of my own personal experiences of adhd and the struggles i face everyday.
cause of adhd:
- adhd is caused by differences in the brain's ability to pay attention, slow down and have patience. whilst the common misconception is that adhd is caused by high levels of sugar or caffeine this is simply untrue.
people with adhd might:
- struggle to listen and pay attention.
- need constant reminders in order to complete basic tasks.
- get distracted easily and more frequently.
- be disorganised and misplace things frequently.
- act impulsively, and out of character,
there is no complete cure for adhd or a quick fix, however, there are many things that may help to control and ease the symptoms of adhd.
- a doctor may prescribe someone with adhd medicine in order to boost the brain's ability to slow down, pay attention and have more patience.
- therapy may sometimes help people with adhd, teaching them how to cope with their intense feelings, gain self control and learn attention skills. therapy can help someone with adhd see the best out of their condition and start utilising it instead of looking at it as a negative
we may put of doing small, necessary tasks for periods of time just because they simply seem and feel too hard. something as simple of moving a pile of clothes can seem like the most challenging thing in the world. this creates the misconception that people with adhd are lazy.
hyperfocus:
many people with adhd experience something called hyperfocus, this is where an individual focuses on something intensely for a short period of time, forgetting about everything. whilst in a state of hyperfocus someone may lose a sense of what is going on around them
often losing track of time.
people with adhd often experience emotions to the max and they can feel overpowering and completely take over us allowing us to not do anything but feel them, these emotions are hard to snap out of and sometimes last a while and other times a momentary
this.
