desis and non-desis, let’s talk about this tiktok and the trend in general.
the song is a classical piece sung by a well respected singer. it takes years of practice to be able to sing that, and for people to take that and just turn it into a weird trend is very disrespectful to the singer.
not only is it disrespectful to the singer, the reason people find it funny is because the audio sounds “indian” (in regards to the country). i’ve seen so many comments on videos from the trend laughing because of it. it’s not as bad as tunak tunak but it’s still a mockery.
if you’re desi and not offended, i respect that, but please do not talk over people who do feel disrespected.
if you’re not desi, don’t try to search out tweets defending xiaoyang. this is not your place to speak. if you want to help you can listen to us and wait.
also, desi people making desi memes does not give non desi people the right to make desi memes. i thought this was common sense.
before anyone tries to say something, do not use this tiktok for your fanwars. both desis and non-desis. that is not how you speak out about situations like these.
so, i just found out the singer, lata mangeshkar, supports fascism. but people are using that to excuse this issue, but that is not the point. mocking lata mangeshkar is way different than mocking classical indian music, which is what the trend is doing.
please, do not use this to hate on wayv or xiaoyang if you aren’t desi.
