This isntrue for digital art too as well. Understanding how programmers think and how brushes are programmed and what makes a "digital brush stroke" will help you understand how to use them.
Lime if you understand how something is MADE you will understand WHY it LOOKS a certain way. AND how to maintain it and customize it to your liking. Thats why.
This is true for everything. Like comics look that way for a reason. Paintings look that way for a reason. Etc etc.
