one of these days I'd love to discuss the fact that one of the reasons why we're in this mess is because white evangelicals have maintained an irrational hatred of Hillary Clinton for almost 30 years, and even someone as vile as Trump couldn't make them reconsider their feelings.

talk to anyone who grew up in the evangelical church in the 90s and they can confirm this. A major part of evangelical politics was outright hatred of Hillary Clinton. Not just the Democrats but specifically Hillary. They deeply hated her. Still do.

Basically it all boils down to misogyny. She is a woman who exists outside of their narrow ideas of how women should act, so they turned her into a monster who is out to destroy their way of life.

as late as 2008 I still held some mistrust and resentment towards Hillary, totally based on what I'd been taught in the evangelical church. Then I read her autobiography Living History and realized everything I had learned about her was wrong and she was, surprise! A human being!

Do not discount the evangelical church's capacity for hatred and cruelty. When they hate someone (or a group of people), they mean it, and will use it to justify all sorts of terrible things.
