Looking through the Steven Universe Future tag and seeing how many die hard fans of the show straight up didn't get it.

"Steven has Depression and PTSD and becomes a monster huh???"

War Trauma and Familial Trauma when left unaddressed can lead to literal violent outbursts, yes
If you think the kind of trauma and suffering this child faced wouldn't lead to his internalizing the violence in himself as his being a monster, then you don't understand PTSD

The things we learn to cope with trauma aren't always healthy and sometimes hurt those around us, yes.
I get you guys wanting Steven to remain the loving crying feeling boy who is honest with everyone around him, but are you guys forgetting "Full Disclosure" ?

when Steven keeps his feelings and the truth of his trauma from the ONLY person who truly sees him and not his mother?
There is SO much context within the show to foreshadow what happens with Steven not to mention the obvious painful truth that VICTIMS can absolutely become ABUSERS too if their TRAUMA is left UNADRESSED

Rebecca Sugar didn't sugar coat this truth from us, and did a favor in not
THIS ARC IS A WARNING TO ALL OF US PTSD HAVERS AND SURVIVORS OUT THERE THAT IF WE DO NOT ADDRESS OUR TRAUMAS WE CAN DO REAL HARM TO OURSELVES AND OTHERS

We can become the very monsters that haunt our dreams
It hurts to hear this truth
believe me it does
but it is a truth
Why do you think this series ends with Steven going to therapy?

With his family accepting and loving him despite his many mistakes?

Hugging him and loving him and being there for him like he was for ALL OF THEM???

That's the lesson we all need to hear
that we will be loved
This season was meant to explore cPTSD
Steven is experiencing a particularly difficult relationship with trauma that is dismissed A LOT believe me,
I know
I have cPTSD and for me it manifested in:

Agoraphobia
Anxiety/Depression
Suicidal Ideation
Intrusive Thoughts
Steven describes having violent thoughts towards White diamond and everyone responds by clasping their hands over their mouths in shock

not THIS boy having THOSE thoughts
and lord Intrusive Thoughts are so scary if you don't know why they happen
Heres why they happen: Trauma
Guess when I found out that violent thoughts were a result of trauma?

Last year

I'm 29 and I've had cPTSD manifesting in my life for years and intrusive thoughts for so long and I didn't know until last year why

but cPTSD folks watching this series have Steven to show them
So, no, this series depiction of Steven is not "harmful" for those with depression and PTSD

It's fully realized authentic representation for those of us who have cPTSD

Because cPTSD is not from short lived trauma, but from constant trauma through your childhood, like he had
and it can make you feel like a monster
it can make you feel like a burden
it can manifest in rage and through harming others thinking you're defending yourself because your brain is stuck in survival mode
the best thing I ever could've seen this year was someone like me having a meltdown
and still being LOVED afterwards
and that's Amazing Award worthy storytelling
If Steven is worthy of love, then so am I and that matters
