One reason we're suffering through so much turmoil right now is that for the Left, everything has to be a huge moralistic crusade exploited for maximum political gain. The System is always broken from coast to coast. The American people are always the root problem.
A given problem can never be a matter of individual judgment, especially if those individuals are Democrat politicians. The more Dems involved in the legislative and administrative process around the crisis, the more likely the Left will finger all Americans as the real culprits.
It can never be a matter of the rules being followed but leading to a bad outcome in a particular case. It can never, EVER be that a member of a preferred left-wing grievance group exercised bad judgement and created a bloody disaster.
The solution can never be reasonable reforms that most people would agree upon. Everything has to be a political jihad against the infidels, with total victory the only acceptable outcome. Destructive virtue signaling takes precedence over constructive problem solving.
These crusades always have to be emotional freakouts, because emotion can be harvested for political gain (and big money) in a way that reason cannot. There is no profit to be found in a calm and reasonable discussion that leads to modest and sensible reforms.
And the problems are never kept local, because that would focus unwanted attention on Democrat politicians and the rules they promulgate. Everything blows up into a national crusade against "systemic" problems. The individuals directly responsible for local systems are forgotten.
In all of the madness, destruction, and violence that has erupted since the death of George Floyd, when was the last time you heard the name of ANY of the city or state officials directly responsible for the police and the procedures they followed? They're completely invisible.
This is a complete inversion of how things should actually work. We should begin with the individuals involved, government and civilian, and work our way up. We should start local. But instead, if the Left smells power and money, local stories instantly become national news.
Turmoil is what happens when power is more important than responsibility. The Left didn't just squander a moment of broad consensus after the death of George Floyd. They killed it with fire, on purpose, because they hate it when people reason together to solve problems. /end
