Here’s my thoughts about Tory Lanez and his new album and cancel culture.
First, I find it disrespectful that Tory decided to release this album during a week in which Breonna Taylor’s family found not a cent of justice.
More importantly I feel like if dude had nothing to do with Megs shooting why wait this long to say something or have your fans clown her online.
A few months ago i wrote on here that if you ever want to know why Breonna Taylor’s family never got justice all you have to do is look at social media and the countless jokes that some people on here made about Meg getting shot.
To them & Great Value Wayne Brady @DanielCameronAG black women are punchlines. Which is why as Malcolm X said the most disrespected person on earth is the black woman.
Which brings us back to the now. Because WTUL lets us control our own playlists I said last night that I would never play his shit on my show. Keep in mind I was speaking for myself and my show.
If another DJ at the station plays Tory that’s their decision. I can’t stop them from playing his music. The same way I can’t stop any of y’all from listening to his new album.
If social media was around in the time of Marvin Gaye, David Ruffin, & Lou Rawls some of y’all would have canceled them because two of them were married to white women and the other fucked with an underage woman.
My point? I can voice my opinion about refusing to play Tory on my show. I can’t shame you for playing Tory or whatever you listen to. Because we’re all different.
