As Chris Rock said... some professions you just cannot have bad apples. These are often professions that serve our general public. And often when I think of these professions I think of how often I've heard in my life "I felt a calling to be"...
A Teacher, a Doctor, a Nurse, a Police Officer, a Pilot, A Minister/Bishop/Priest, a Firefighter etc. All people we trust and what a calling that would be. And I appreciate every single person who answers their call with the right heart and mind. But some just don't.
In fact some are as Chris Rock says bad apples. And as bad as it is that those bad apples exist it's worse when their actions are ones many do not speak openly about until it's too late. Their co workers told if they speak up they lose their jobs.
I thought we had Whistle Blower Protections in Alberta? Guess not? I mean not really because being an advocate for children with disabilities I hear stuff that really makes me wonder 🤔 @ChristinaNDP
How should I feel when every year parents are told to wait for the teacher lottery. Hope for one that will want and appreciate your child in their class. Hope for one that won't leave them in diapers, or one that won't lock them in seclusion rooms. #ableg @AdrianaLaGrange
The ones who won't drag them down hallways, whip them around like rag dolls, smack them or call them names. Hope for the teacher lottery they say. My family got it this year yay! And we can hardly enjoy knowing next year we could lose again. #abed #abpoli
And we get most of our info from other teachers scared to speak up! How? And they will be scared to even speak on this post like it or have the conversation because their jobs are on the line. My DM's get full and it's crickets to the public.
We forget though majority of these professions have unions. These kids don't. Those who usually end up harmed don't. If you are called to a position like this don't let it come down to a lottery. Don't force parents to stress such things you felt called to do.
