Welcome to #LiveHive! I ( @Holly_Rebekah) am here for the next hour to tell you a bit about what we’ve been up to for the last month at #ManchesterVoices #McrVoices!
We’ve got loads of different ways you can get involved with the project, which explores #accent #dialect and #identity in #GreaterManchester
First, a bit more about what the project is and who’s behind it #ManchesterVoices is an @ahrcpress funded linguistics project based at #ManMetUni and is run by @RobDrummond, @erincarrie and @sadie_d_ryan and @Holly_Rebekah. Here we are in our first full team meeting back in May!
The project aims to provide a detailed snapshot of how the diverse accents and dialects of Greater Manchester are used and perceived every day.
To do this we’re using a wide variety of methods: touring the ten boroughs in the Accent Van, collecting responses on our dialect map, conducting online experiments about how the different accents are dialects are evaluated, and analysing archival recordings from the region.
Back in 2016, we toured the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester in the Accent Van, interviewing people in the mobile recording booth about what they think about where they live, how they speak and how it relates to who they are. #Voices2016
