The reason Graham hated in such a heartfelt, personal way is John McCain. Trump was always vicious & cruel to McCain & anyone who did not bend the knee. McCain was also everything that Trump wasn't, so his ugly, bitter envy was expected. But John McCain was Lindsey's FRIEND. 2/x

When Graham turned on a dime & became one of the most nauseatingly obsequious Trump sycophants, what the country saw was not just another in a long line of spineless Trump toadies but a man stabbing his lifelong friend in the back the moment that friend went into the ground. 3/x

We have all kinds of emotions towards the likes of Matt Gaetz, Marco Rubio, Louis Gohmert, etc. who have betrayed their public duty but the kind of disgust and, yes, hate that many have for Graham is reserved for the private, unforgivable, PERSONAL betrayal he has embraced. 4/x

In 2016 you would've thought Graham would be a founder of something like @ProjectLincoln instead of its target in 2020. Whether it was bribery, blackmail, or something else during that round of golf, he burned to ash every bit of himself that those who liked him had embraced. 5/x

Graham, in an instant, went from potential hero, to tragic figure, to gleeful villain. We are no longer surprised to see him betraying John McCain, or attacking the family of his former good friend Joe Biden. We are unsurprised but we do not forgive. He has earned the hatred. 6/6
