The new EO, which doesn& #39;t hold legal weight, "includes a ...commitment to...protecting individuals w/ pre-ex conditions...ensuring they have access to the high-quality healthcare," stating "no American should have to risk going w/o health insurance based on a health history..."
Hard to see how this would play out wo/ the ACA (which the Administration supports repealing) or major coverage reform replacing it. The statement also contrasts sharply with the administration& #39;s promotion of short-term plans and other non-ACA compliant health plans.
These plans offer a window into what coverage looks like when issuers can consider pre-ex conditions as part of underwriting (as does pre-ACA history). History lesson here: https://twitter.com/larry_levitt/status/1309228662332432384?s=20">https://twitter.com/larry_lev...
In 2018 we examined whether people with HIV would be able to gain coverage in short-term limited duration plans. Spoiler: They can& #39;t. We applied to 38 plans as someone with HIV and were denied coverage in all 38 cases.
If diagnosed w/ HIV while enrolled, it& #39;s unlikely plans would meet treatment needs and subsequently, coverage would not be renewed. https://www.kff.org/hivaids/issue-brief/short-term-limited-duration-plans-and-hiv/">https://www.kff.org/hivaids/i...
