1/Australia, it's time.

This week's events have convinced me that we need to exert our power as a people, with the aim of replacing* the Australian federal government, not in 2022 but NOW. I don't say this lightly.

*by legitimate means; pls read thread before forming opinion
2/THIS GOVERNMENT CANNOT BE MADE BETTER.

There's no use appealing to them.

As we've seen this week, there's no use expecting them to obey the law either.

But the main reason for not waiting until 2022 to vote them out?

Bushfire season is coming. And they haven't got a plan.
3/Even after the death and destruction of last summer, THIS GOVERNMENT HAS NO BUSHFIRE PLAN.

They'll leave it to the state premiers again, while undermining the ones who openly call out their infantile efforts to politicise crisis situations.

Exactly like they're doing now.
4/They need to go. There's no room for negotiation.

I said this was legit. It is. No revolution required.

I said there's no use appealing to them. A government that openly harbours criminals in its own cabinet does not give a shit about public opinion.

So what can we do?
5/We can't appeal to the Government, but we sure as fuck can appeal to the Opposition and to those who hold the balance of power in the Senate.

I mean, who in their right mind would support #ScottyTheSimp & his mob of incompetents, with a crim in Parliament and no bushfire plan?
6/You'd have to be a complete dickhead. You'd have to not give a flying fuck about your voting public.

Unlike the LNP, who have the backing of Murdoch, the fossil fuel giants, the cashed-up elitist by-products of #ShoreSchool et al...these MPs and senators rely on our votes.
7/Which makes them vulnerable: Not quite the same as us, but not so dissimilar they can't see where we're coming from. Presumably this also makes them human, which is excellent.

And no, I'm not talking about taking @AlboMP hostage or using the crossbench as target practice.
8/I mean that for the most part, they share our concerns. About COVID-19. About using the ADF as a political tool. About fire season. About the Government itself & whether the PM's capable* of doing anything besides sinking piss & talking shit.

*If it involves a circular saw, no
9/I think we should initiate dialogue with the Opposition, and possibly the Upper House crossbench, about the urgency of Australia's situation, and the IMMEDIATE need for good leadership & a government that won't just sit back & watch us - and the land that gives us life - burn.
10/A double-dissolution election can be triggered if the Senate rejects or fails to pass a law approved by the House of Reps, then rejects/fails to pass the same law again after a 3-month interval. (Section 57 of the Constitution).

Another way to trigger a DD is to block supply.
11/If the Senate blocks supply, by convention the Governor-General will only dissolve government on the advice of the PM.

But convention is not the law. When GG David Hurley was sworn in, he vowed to dedicate his tenure to supporting those who help the nation's most vulnerable.
12/Can this truly be said of the Morrison Government? When they've slashed JobSeeker by 45%? When they're dumping responsible lending laws in defiance of the banking commission, allowing banks to resume the predatory behaviour that triggered the commission in the first place?
13/Labor has long maintained it will not block supply. In 2014, @TimWattsMP said of the issue, 'Our democratic institutions are too important to trash for short-term political gain'.

The trouble is that in the long term, a great many of us may be homeless, unemployed, or dead.
14/The notion that Governor-General will dissolve government only on the advice of the PM is based on convention; Labor's stance against blocking supply is based on principle.

But in both cases, they're still allowed to do these things under the Constitution.
15/Dear Australians, please consider the points I've raised tonight. I welcome your input & advice. I'm no politician, just an ordinary Aussie shit-scared of what the future holds with this faithless and inept Government in charge. And I can't stand sitting around doing nothing.
16/Anyway, thanks for reading, if you made it this far.😉 Feel free to inbox me. (And if someone could teach me how to use that thread unroller whatsit, that'd be awesome.)

In solidarity
