June, 1939. Poland hands over Enigma copies, code analysis and drawings of a “bombe” electromechanical computer. August, 1939. Poland signs a treaty with Britain and France where the two Western countries promise to come to Poland’s aid in case of attack.
Sept. 1, 1939. Poland is attacked on three sides. Britain and France drag their feet, but finally declare war on Germany. Stalin holds back his attack to see if they will honor their treaty.
Gamelin promises to start the offensive against the Germans in two weeks. The OKH is watching Britain and France very closely.
The Germans have only 33 divisions in the West against 110 (!) British and French divisions. They also have fewer tanks and aircraft. A swift offensive would have crushed Germany within weeks...
September 12, 1939. In Abbeville the French and British governments decide NOT to honor their treaty with Poland!
September 17, 1939. The Soviets, acting on the secret protocol of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, attack and annex Eastern Poland.
There would be no Blitz, no Battle of Britain and hundreds of Brit industrialists wouldn’t have gotten rich on Lend-Lease loans.
And Stalin’s Soviet Union would be seen for what it really was: a staunch ally of Nazi Germany, responsible for starting the war. There would also be no annexation of Eastern Europe and North Korea. Just think about it for a moment.
In a twist of Fate, Abbeville was liberated by Maczek’s armored division in 1944, itself a part of the huge Polish armed forces in the West, betrayed by Roosevelt and Churchill in 1944...
