Thread: We are concerned at the misrepresentation in this letter from @WelshGovernment ministers. 1. There is no 'rollback' of rights. If this perception is held by activists, then the fault lies with lobbying organisations who treated this significant legislative proposal 1/n https://twitter.com/TFZMamaBear/status/1308812111846481925
as a done deal achieved through private influencing and the exclusion of women. 2. The point of a consultation is to gather views before making a decision. To 'promise' reform without even asking the views of women whose rights to single sex provision would be affected 2/n
would be bizarre and unethical on the part of the UK Government. Fortunately, women made themselves heard and @trussliz listened. These women came from all walks of life, all political stripes and none, and without the benefit of well-funded lobbying structures behind them. 3/n
This should be an opportunity for @WelshGovernment to pause, take stock and try to understand why so many women have united on this issue - clue, it's not 'bigotry' or 'transphobia' or 'hatred'. This is about the rights that women have fought for over generations and which 4/n
are still too easily threatened. Instead, we have two Ministers seemingly determined publicly to commit the Welsh Government to an ideological position without any consultation with women or the wider public in Wales. This is not acceptable. 5/5
