Thread on SPB Sir. One of the best things happen to me after moving to Chennai has been the chance to see several icons perform live. A few years back at Illayaraaja concert, SPB sang Ilaya Nila Poligarathu and later on Flutist Napoleon walked up to him (1/n)
and asked if he can sing again as couldn't find the right flute. SPB didn't hesitate, said Naploean is feeling guilty since he couldn't give BG score. told audience it is impossible to get everything right in one take as the composition took several hours. They went again (2/n)
SPB sang again and as Napoleon took the flute, he pointed towards the audience to cheer for him. It was an evening where he sang some wonderful numbers from Illayaraaja's album
Last year in a Illayaraaja concert in Coimbatore, where the audio system wasn't working properly, SPB, who was supposed to finish his portion and take the flight, decided to stay back as the crowd waited patiently. As the system wasn't working properly..(4/n)
He took another mic and with Raaja playing the harmonium, they kept the crowd occupied until the issue was sorted and assured he will be the last one to leave the stage and said, "Don't know when I will come here next." (5/n)
This could be 2012 or 2013, at Chennai airport a slight flight delay ensured chaotic scenes where a toddler started to cry. She went on for a while before SPB Sir, who was taking the same flight, went closer and started singing in Telugu. (Don't know what song it was) (6/n)
And in seconds there was complete silence and the toddler too stopped crying. SPB sir didn't have any limits. He went beyond ways to accommodate others. For years, the first song on my mobile playlist has been En Kaadhale. It will stay so forever. #SPB
