Screening can detect diabetes retinopathy early before changes in vision occur.

Screening involves a eye history, dilating eye drops (not always needed), photography either 1/2 images per eye & grading.

If your referred to Ophthalmology it’s for further assessment 2/5
If sight-threatening diabetes retinopathy occurs there is treatment available.

Treatment works best when used before vision changes occur so screening is important.

Treatment applied in multiple sessions. Lowering glucose, blood pressure & cholesterol still important 3/5
Lowering blood glucose lowers ur risk of developing diabetes retinopathy.

But if diabetes retinopathy has developed lowering blood glucose too quickly can cause it to get worse.

Lower slowly where possible & where not ensure u attend screening or your Ophthalmologist knows 4/5
Different eye conditions can affect your sight in different ways.

But there are some common symptoms between them, so it’s not always easy to know what’s going on.

Any sudden changes to your sight should be checked quickly. 5/5
