I’ve spent a lot of my life feeling incredibly bad and lazy for dumping everything i am holding in a big pile as soon as I get home. I “should” “just” tie my shoelaces properly and empty my bags and put things down where they actually go.
But as I gain greater awareness of my own actual limits I’ve recognised what a monumental ask that is of myself. These days I prioritise “food that will go rotten if I forget about it” and make sure that any food containers go in the sink. Everything else gets left by the door.
Because as it turns out... by the time I get home I am... DONE. I have nothing. I have sensory overload and can’t deal with the way the shadows move across the fly screen door.
So lunch box or food containers in the sink. Frozen or cold food from the supermarket goes in the fridge/freezer.

Then I lie down with my eyes closed for at least half an hour. THEN I consider the dump pile.

And it’s way easier since I stopped feeling ashamed of that.
So if there is a thing that you “should” “just” do and you just... don’t. Consider maybe that it’s actually... really hard. And that’s why.
